Our temperatures in May are normally in the 90s. The beginning of the hot season. Not this year, though... we have had a hot May this year! Early this week, we set a new record (14 days) for 100+ days in a row during the month of May!
It's not all bad, though, since we all have air conditioning out here. You just give in to the fact that the electricity bills will be higher, close all the windows and turn the air on. And, now thanks to our pastor for fixing the A/C in our van, both our vehicles are nice & cool in the heat. We were actually feeling quite comfortable.
But we had a nice break from the heat yesterday, in the 80s, with a beautiful breeze, and we could feel the promise of rain in the air. All night last night, we had a steady, soaking rain. It sounded great, reminding us of a pleasant Marquette summer night.
It's just barely gotten to 70 degrees this morning at 9:15, when earlier this week we were at 100 degrees by this time! Ahhh...

LOL! If you guys had temps in the 80s yesterday then Marquette, your old home, was hotter than you! They reached a high of 90!!
Rachel
Oh I don't think I could take that kind of heat. Steady 90's already is too much for me. Here in New England the average temp this time of year is a high of 68. We were thrilled this week because it did hit almost 80 where we live it it was beautiful.
Was it hard making the transition to the extremes in temps?
Thanks for your comments, ladies!
Rachel, That is *too* funny! What's even crazier is that just four days before Mqt had 95 degrees, it was snowing!!! Now they are back to normal temps for this time of year... 50s and 60s.
Judy, It's definitely hot here... but the humidity is *much* less since it's a desert here. That does make a difference.
As for transitions, it wasn't really too hard for me being here versus a very cold climate like we were used to. The kids, on the other hand, do miss the snow a lot.
How I feel is that we went from one extreme to another... high heating costs in winter vs. high cooling costs in summer.
In our old home: keeping candles, matches and a jar in the van in case of break down so we wouldn't freeze and die.
Here: keeping water with us on trips in case of break down so we wouldn't dehydrate and die.
It's kinda funny, but I think having been in a very cold climate before made it easier to get used to being in a very hot climate.
Maybe that doesn't make sense, but it feels that way to me. Crazy, huh? :)
Amy :)
