1st Time Voting as an Arizonan

This is the first time we're voting as Arizonans. It's also the first time we've been able to walk to our polling place. Jesse, Naomi and I just walked over to the elementary school in our neighborhood to vote. It was quicker than I'd expected. I'm now wearing my cute little "I Voted Today" sticker, though it is different than the one in this post.

I won't be shy about who I voted for. Matt & I vote pro-life. Need I say more?

John McCain is from Phoenix, so he and Sarah Palin are there getting ready for the big night (we're praying it's a *victory* party, contrary to what everyone has been predicting for weeks). It's surreal to know that we are so close to where our candidate is waiting for the results of his campaign. Too bad we can't go and be a part of it all!

Anyway, if you're voting pro-life, get out & vote!! Otherwise, just stay at home! (I'm smiling as I type this, but I *am* praying that the pro-life candidates will win.)

Just my 2 cents' worth...

I normally don't use my blog as a political "soapbox", but after seeing clips from the Democratic National Convention, I had to say something today.

Last night, Michelle Obama spoke and then their beautiful girls came up on stage and talked to their dad, who was in Kansas City at the time, via satellite. It was a time that probably touched a lot of people's hearts.

I must admit, I'm finding that it's hard *not* to like Barack Obama. He's young, with a beautiful wife & daughters, and he seems so pleasant and likeable. Like we could be friends with them. And how cool would it be to finally have an African-American president?

BUT...

Here's what he says about the abortion issue:
“Thirty-five years after the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade, it’s never been more important to protect a woman’s right to choose....Throughout my career, I’ve been a consistent and strong supporter of reproductive justice, and have consistently had a 100% pro-choice rating with Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America.”

-Senator Barack Obama

None of the rest really matters, if he won't protect the most innocent lives, instead making it all into an issue of "choice". I'm all about choice, but not when it comes to choosing to end someone else's life!

Here's a link to Senator Obama's voting record on abortion.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is in two days

Lydia posted this powerful poem on her blog, Nathan's Helpmeet, and I wanted you to read it, too. It tears at my heart when I read these words.

Ballad of the Unborn

My shining feet will never run on early morning lawn;
my feet were crushed before they had a chance to greet the dawn.

My fingers now will never stretch to touch the winning lap;
my race was done before I learned the smallest steps to take;

My growing height will never be recorded on the wall;
my growth was stopped when I was still unseen, and very small.

My lips and tongue will never taste the good fruits of the earth;
for I myself was judged to be a fruit of little worth.

My eyes will never scan the sky for my high-flying kite;
for when still blind, destroyed were they in the black womb of night.

I’ll never stand upon a hill, Spring’s winds in my hair;
aborted winds of thought closed in on Motherhood’s despair.

I’ll never walk the shores of life or know the tides of time;
for I was coming but unloved, and that my only crime.

Nameless am I, a grain of sand, one of the countless dead;
but the deed that made me ashen grey floats on seas of red.
