Jesse told me after the spelling bee, when we ran through a downpour to our van, that this was the best birthday ever because of the rain, and there being water to splash in! Funny, huh, how quickly you can get accustomed to a new climate? Rain wasn't something terribly exciting in the Upper Peninsula... we used to have downpours quite a bit (not this time of year, though... that would be snow!). But everyone here seems to be quite excited about the rain we had this past weekend. :)
Jesse also said this was the best birthday ever because we had our Christmas tree. :) He had been hoping we'd have our Christmas tree for his birthday. On Wednesday we stopped at a place near our home that sells Christmas trees shipped from Oregon. We got a good deal on a Douglas Fir that is about 8 feet tall, with soft needles and is *very* beautiful. It is perfectly-shaped, the most beautiful Christmas tree we've had yet. :) The kids & I decorated it on Thursday, and Jesse was thrilled that it was here for his party.
We had friends from church over for dinner. The original plan was to go to our city's big party, with the tree lighting, fireworks, etc. But that was cancelled due to rain, so instead of meeting them at the city's party, we had them over for dinner. It was fun! :)
Here are a few photos of the evening...
Our friend Wayne, reading a book to our youngest three and their older two. They all loved it!
Marissa enjoyed holding our friends' youngest, 6-month-old Claire.

How great for David and Marisa to participate in the spelling bee.
Very sweet how Jesse responded. Sam's birthday was yesterday...he also said over and over "this is he best birthday every!" It snowed, he hoped we'd have our tree. soon.
Happy Birthday, Jesse!!
